Good news! You can now deactivate your own account!
Go to Preferences on your SideReel account. You can find it under your name in the upper right corner of the site, or by clicking this link:
https://www.sidereel.com/users/edit
On the bottom of your preferences, you’ll see a link that says “Deactivate my account.” Simply click on the link, give a reason for your deactivation, submit it, and you’re done!
Let me know if you have any issues with this!

2I would like to know how to cancel my account. I tried watching some edisode but it doesn't work on my computer so I'd like to just cancel everything. I definitely like the idea of what Sidereel has to offer its just a bummer that my computer isn't updated enough. thanks for any answers.

Hi Sally, SideReel is a free service to sign up for and to use. If you paid for anything, it might have been a separate video site added to SideReel as SideReel doesn't host any videos, so anything you clicked to watch was user-submitted content to a video hosting site. Because some spam can get in with the good content, we recommend users don't pay, download anything, or fill anything out before access to the video.
We recommend you check your credit card bill to see specifically what company/site you paid if you aren't already sure so you can get in touch with them about a refund. Also if it's a spam site that should be removed from SideReel, you can report the site to us at spamsucks@sidereel.com so we can review it and ban it if needed.

Maybe the question should be: "How do I disconnect from facebook permanently?".
I just signed up for sidereel and it mysteriously did'ntt use the username I typed, but instead the one sidereel suggested. I checked the FAQ how to change my username and apparently I'm supposed to delete my current account and set up a new one. But how does this deleting off your mail list work if I haven't even confirmed my email adress yet? I'm really confused here... I can't even log off from THIS site - if I click on log out it just logs me out from facebook.com - which I find very scary.

Hi Dennis, when you click to sign up for SideReel via Facebook directly or via any Facebook Connect button around the site, it sets up the account differently than if you just clicked the Sign Up button separate from Facebook Connect where you could choose your username and don't have to be connected to Facebook.
If you would like to disconnect from Facebook, here's how to do so:
Visit your Facebook and log in, then click the Applications button at the bottom left. Click on 'Edit Applications' then from the drop down menu, select Authorized. You should see the SideReel application on that list. Click the 'x' next to the application and confirm you want to remove it.
If you did not yet enter your email address at any point in signing up via Facebook Connect, you can just create a new account with any username you'd like here:

As long as you don't click any of the Facebook Connect buttons, you won't be asked to connect and you won't get connected automatically to Facebook.

Hi cdjhiers, all you need to do is visit your profile and you'll see that Personalized TV Schedule near the top where you can uncheck the email option.
If you'd like to clear your Activity as well, scroll down the page and you'll find Activity in the right column under your Subscriptions and the Recommended shows.
If you still have trouble, let me know what you're having trouble finding and what you're doing to look for them. Thanks!-

If you have an account on SideReel, you have a Personalized TV Schedule on your profile. Just check your profile and you should find it near the top. As long as you uncheck the box for emails there, you won't receive any emails from us unless you do something like reset your password. We do not give your information to any other sites, and when you log out of your account and have unsubscribed from emails, it's just an inactivate account you can return to only if you'd like.

still extremely angry that this has gone on for so long
You're clearly not understanding what has been written. I have never setup a tv schedule. Immediately after signing up then reading the various comments about people not being able to watch anything, I tried to cancel. I have no personalized tv schedule. It's crazy that it takes 2 minutes to sign up but months to try to cancel. I simply want to delete my profile. Simply stopping emails from coming does not delete your profile. Do we need to contact someone more educated to handle this because clearly anyone at this company does not have the brain capacity to answer the question. Every other website I know of has a delete profile option. Ridiculous!

UPDATED: To deactivate your account, remove yourself from our email list by visiting 'My Tracker' while logged in and uncheck the box at the top of your 'TV Shows I'm Tracking' calendar for 'Email Me Daily Updates.'
This is the only email list we currently have, so if you unsubscribe from those, you won't receive any emails from us.
Accounts don't come with any fees, so you don't need to worry about any charges for having an account.

I would like to delete my account also. i do not wish to merely deactivate my account by taking myself off of an email list, or disconnecting my facebook account from this site. I wish to erase every trace of myself from this site. I wish to be purged as a user from this site.
Basically, I want it to be as though I had never been a user on this site - not just for me but for the site as well. HOW DO I DO THIS? I mean, it's hard to quit sites sometimes, but in this case, it's ridiculous.
I have cancelled the email thing, and delinked my facebook from facebook, but not from here because that option isn't there.
I WANT MY ACCOUNT TO BE DELETED. PERMANENTLY AND COMPLETELY. This would turn my uber frustrated face into a happy one. Thanks.-
but why.. it's not like you paid anything. Accounts are free and if you don't like them you can always leave and never come back. ITS A FREE ACCOUNT .. I don't understand how this is going to affect you, once you leave sidereel. They are not going to email you once you check it off so what's to worry?

As VidooxTV noted, SideReel is free to sign up for and to use, and once you deactivate your account, the only thing left is an inactive username that no one else can use. If you have trouble removing your email address from the site and are concerned about that, feel free to let me know, either on this post or via email to contact@sidereel.com, what your username is and I'll be happy to make sure your email address is fully removed.

frustrated, but confident my request will be honored as I have specified.
I would also like to delete my account completely, I thought this site was something else when I signed up for it (my mistake not to check into this first). I understand that I can unsubscribe from emails, clear my activity, and disconnect from facebook, but I also wish to DELETE my account all together. I know if I do these things, it may seem to be just like the account doesn't exist, but the fact remains that I will have an account (active or not) and I would like to not have one (active or not). So, regardless of any possible reasoning to just be happy with pretending the account does not exist, I wish to have my account DELETED and NOTHING less.

Hi Becky, unfortunately the way accounts were set up on the site, there's not a way to delete a username, but if you're having trouble removing your email address so there's no connection to you, feel free to send me an email at contact@sidereel.com with your username so I can completely delete that for you.

Sidereel I really hate the layout and delivery of your website. I hate all the spam I have been since I created my account and it is not even worth it to have an account with you guys anymore. You guys really don't have a place to delete an account and I would love to delete mine!!!!!!!

I have just opened this account, realized that it was not what I expected it to be, and now want to close the account... only to find that people do not have the option to do so.
Sure, it is possible that a system is set up so that it is impossible to delete an account, but then other options should be available:
1) SideReel could offer that the database administrator could run a script that would delete the users details, and thus remove all details from the SideReel system.
2) SideReel could make the above into a user-based solution where all account info is over written by Random info, thus removing any trace of the user.
3) SideReel could make a Close Account button, and with it, implement a policy, which dictates that an account closed by the user cannot and will not be opened again.
In IT there is no such thing as impossible... it is only a question of how it is done, so any justification for not providing the functionality is simply feeble excuses.
As for customer service: Kendra, you are fighting a brave fight, undoubtedly with tools that are inadequate for the job, but you have to respond to the specific requests/issues raised. If people feel they are not being heard, they will get very frustrated very quickly, as is evident in the above string. Since this is not one person having one odd/strange/abstract issue then you should raise it with the developers at SideReel, and get them to take action. The only way that this loooong blog-string will help SideReel if they come out strong and say: We are looking into it. We realize our system has shortcomings, but we will do something about it soonest.
... and then when something is done, maybe in a week, maybe in 1 month, maybe in 1⁄2 a year, SideReel can say to their customers: We listen and adapt so we can provide our users with what they want... and ultimately that will make you TONS more money than just stonewalling people!!!
Fortunately, I used fairly generic info and a temporary e-mail address to set up my account, so my SideReel account does not really contain anything of interest to anyone.... but not being able to close my account still irks me.

We appreciate the thorough response and detailed suggestions, however, I think there is a bit of confusion. It is possible to get rid of your SideReel account -- the only thing that cannot be done is completely delete your username. We can, however, as you described in one of your suggestions, completely delete/replace all of the personal information (including e-mail) in the database, thus rendering your username an empty handle that can no longer be accessed or used. Hi Em! As a UK user, you can still watch shows through SideReel! While some sources, like Hulu or iTunes, may be limited to certain regions, if you click "search links" for the episode you're looking for, you should be taken to the full list of submitted links -- most of which are internationally available! If you'd still like to deactivate your account, you can do so by e-mailing info@sidereel.com

Well, kendra doesn't seem to understand that people want their accounts terminated and is obviously not willing to help. SideReel is not too concerned with privacy policies i guess. They even reqire you to log in to yet another site to ask for termination, you have got to be kidding me!
Here's my solution to this little problem:
1) change your password to bogus
2) change your e-mail and the rest of your personal info to bogus
3) update all of it
4) log off
And there you have it, the only thing they'll have (hopefully) will be your user name.

You could just actually refer to this process on the sidereel web page. Even if its still as complicated as sending an email to you. There should still be the information on the actual page. I was not fond of the internet odysee.
And I meant to write 'flirt with the cute girl at the copy printer' but thought it was rude to post, so I wrote coffee instead ;)
So please, go and make somethong nicer of your hour than answering avoidable rage comments by unsatisfied customers.

While our public forum is meant to be an easy way to communicate with the SideReel team and get answers, I agree that you shouldn't necessarily need to come here to get answers about removing your account. Thanks for your honest feedback - as always we're open to suggestions on site improvements!
And believe it or not, I enjoy solving user problems! If I didn't, this would be quite the miserable position I've been put in!

Hi Danielle, your info has been removed from our system, but since it looks like you have a Facebook-connected account, you'll have to disconnect your Facebook from it. In order to do that, sign in to Facebook, go to your privacy settings, then application settings, and from there "remove" the SideReel app. Let me know if you have any other questions!

1Hello, I feel sorry for some of you employees because I know getting harassed by angry customers is never fun to deal with. but I also agree with a previous posting, which explains that if you have this many people complaining about the same thing (that there is no complete and simple way to delete an account rather than just deactivate it and pretend it never existed) than it should be taken into consideration that you should update your website and create this option for people. I don't know much about running a business, especially one through the web, but I still feel like this is a somewhat easy solution. If someone deactivates their email connection to your site, and this makes it so you can't do anything with their account, than why is the option of deleting their account such a problem for you? I can't see why a site wouldn't have that option available unless there is something about having more accounts that is beneficial to you. Either way, if you respond to customers and work on your weak,nesses than I'm sure your site will be more successful. Just saying..
Anyway, I logged onto this site through my facebook account. My system wasn't "modified" so I wasn't able to watch any videos. I followed the previous advice that Kendra gave about deleting the SideReel app from my Facebook account. Since Facebook has changed a bit since she posted it, I had to try to navigate around to figure out how to do it. But in the end, it did work..
But since I didn't go through this site and uncheck any email boxes or try to deactivate my account through the SideReel site, (I think I tracked one show)
I would like for you to go in and make sure my email is deleted and account is deactivated.....minointhesea

Ps; for anyone who wants to go into the Facebook and delete it..click on your Profile on the top right..then on the top right again click Edit Profite.. On the left side it will say Basic Info, Cantact Info, etc and below all that it has a link to change your privacy preferences. click this link. Scroll down to where it says Apps and Websites and click Edit Settings. On this page it should say Apps you use and have an edit settings button..click this and it should list your sidereel app, and also, if youve commented on tthis website, your get satisfaction app as well. click the x's all the way to the right for these apps in order to remove them and confirm.-

You can indeed watch your favorite shows on SideReel, but we don't want to hold you hostage if SideReel just isn't your thing. Please refer to the instructions on our FAQ thread here (http://support.sidereel.com/sidereel/...) for tips on how to watch your shows through SideReel, and if you're still dissatisfied, please email us at info@sidereel.com with the email you used to sign up (so we can verify your account before we deactivate it), and we'll cancel your account for you ASAP.

Hello,
As has been previously stated, and somehow refuted by employees, it is indeed possible to work a bit of simple coding to remove a user from a database. Provided that the website runs on a MySQL Database, here is a very simple fix to the "problem:"
To remove database users, first click on the database name from the main MySQL databases menu. Logically, this database name would be Sidereel Accounts, or something akin to that.
To delete the database user, simply check the box next to its name and click the "Delete Selected" button.
It seriously shouldn't be so hard to have an account completely removed from an internet database, especially if someone is displeased with your services. All you attempt to do is reroute the customer, pick one specific part from their response that doesn't even remotely answer their true question, or provide a "fix" to the issue.Think of it as a container filled with water. The account is the container, and the water is the customer information. Emptying out the water doesn't get rid of the container, which is essentially what people want you to do.
If your webmaster can make this website and knows the function to ADD users, then they know the counter function as well. Or is there something in your web hosting contract that states you have to have a certain amount of accounts?-
