SideReel Android App is Out Now!
Thanks for waiting patiently, Android users - the SideReel mobile app is now available for you too! Track your favorite shows and get timely alerts when your shows are airing! Download now here: http://sdrl.tv/p9V6M2

Great news! I downloaded immediately. However, you may like to know that Facebook Connect login is not working on the Android App. When I click Facebook Connect it opens my phone's browser and takes me to Sidereel, which logs in just fine via fb. However, that process just loops. I have not been able to successfully log in yet.

Tiffany Simone Edwards October 10, 2011 18:10I knew that would work but then I'm going to have to start from scratch I don't want to have to do that. They should just fix it.EditDeleteRemove

Alex (Official Rep) October 12, 2011 18:50Hi Tiffany - that won't force you to start from scratch! It will just allow you to access your Facebook-Connected SideReel account, if that account is the one you have your tracked shows on. If you have a different account (username + password) with your tracked shows, you should not use Facebook Connect at all.EditDeleteRemove

I am using a Samsung Galaxy S and there does not seem to be a link to watch anything. Can you please post the steps needed to do so, or am I just missing it?
-

-
-
I could not find it on the app market, so I got it from here, then emailed it to my phone......installed it from there. Barely any links other than to ABC, CBS etc
-
-
It's not in the Android market, so I emailed the link to my phone, and each time I tried downloading it I would receive the following error message- "Cannot download. The content is not supported on the phone". I have a Samsung Galaxy S and have never encountered this issue before.
-
-
@cassmeister, I recieved the same error on my Droid X. Download the app on to your computer and then send the apk as an attachment in an email to your phone. This also applies to those who cant find it in the market and are asking how to download it as it is not in the market yet.

Hey everyone. Regarding installation of the app. It is NOT on Android Market. Here is how to install:
1) Before you do anything, on your Android phone, press your phone's menu button and go to Settings>Applications. Make sure that the "Unknown sources" box is CHECKED. Without this setting, you will not be able to install apps outside of the Android Market.
2) Open your phone's browser and navigate to http://www.sidereel.com/topic/android.
-Alternately you can email a link to this address to yourself and open it from your email.
2) Click on the download link. On some phones you will be prompted to install as soon as the download completes. If not, then you can either open the installation package (apk) from the Notifications screen or from your phone's Download folder.-
this does noi work on the htc sensation. Has any sensation users had aby luck, if so, how?

it's not installing. Saying "failed"

I tried changing the settings as stated above and I still got the error "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone." I have a new Samsung Replenish through Sprint. Any suggestions?

Facebook connect is not working and I really don't want to have to make a new sidereel account any fix for this yet?

I have a Facebook only connected account. It is Tiffanys26
-

Hi Tiffany! That looks like a regular log-in account, not a Facebook-only account. Keep in mind that if it's a Facebook-only account, your username would be the same as your Facebook name (usually your full name). If you don't remember what your password is, I suggest requesting a new one so that you can log in to the app using your username and password.

I'm using the android app and none of my shows have any links available. Help?
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Android app.-
Hi Steve! The app is designed to help you organize your tracker on the go and receive notifications for your shows, not necessarily allow you to watch TV from your phone. However, given the increasing flash capabilities of many mobile phones, this may be an option for future upgrades!

How do I find the SideReel.com app on the Android Marketplace? I can download it from the website, but cannot load it onto my phone because I have a Mac laptop. How do get this awesome app?

Hi mattfrank! It's actually not in the marketplace just yet - we recommend going to the URL above from your phone's browser and downloading it directly from there!

Hi, I've just downloaded the android sidereel. But I can't seem to login in. The error msg says that the infomation is incorrect even with the correct sidereel userid and password for the usual login. Meanwhile, I can still log in on my computer.

App needs a widget that shows upcoming shows and the time they'll be on.

Yes it does. The idea is to put the information from the tracker into an android widget that can be placed on the homescreen so you can see your tracker info at a glance without starting up the entire app.
-
-
Oh! Gotcha! Sorry I missed that the first time around! A widget would be a great idea - we'll look into the possibility!

i have an htc droid incredible and i downloaded it but it didnt install after fininshing so i went to downloads and it says cannot open file
-
-
I've got the app, and I'm using it happily.
I understand not having links to traditional flash-based websites to watch shows, but the Sidereel app should be able to detect and launch the Hulu Plus app for users who have it installed, when the show is available on Hulu. This seems like a (relatively) easy fix that would make users happy! -

I just tried to download this to my Samsung Charge and I get an error that states this is not supported on the phone. ???

I tried emailing, I have unknown sources checked, I even moved the file straight to my phone LG Vortex and it won't work. :( sad day.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet so i was all giddy about this app, until i realised you cannot click through to the shows and still need to log into the browser version (which works very poorly on the tablet).
Big disappointment. With so many Android tablets coming out, you really need to work on this.- view 1 more comment

the links, I meant you can't click on links.... I use a tablet for 90% of the time, I still watch my shows on it, but I have to go to the browser to find the links. They really need to be in the app.

Thanks for your input! Hopefully with increased viewing capabilities we will be able to provide this in the future. :)

I tried downloading to my pc and emailing the attachment to me. When I open the attachment on my phone I'm getting the following error: "'Parse error. There is a problem parsing the package." I'm on a HTC G2

Hi Carrie, have you tried downloading directly onto your device?

I have tried directly downloading to my phone. When I try this option I get "failed" msg. Tried multiple times with this option.

I have a Samsung Nexus S 4g and it won't allow it to download it either. I couldn't find the app in the market so I attempted to download it directly from the mobile site. I've never had a download fail so i'm at a loss. Help?.

Hi Christina, the app is not in the Android Market. What happened when you downloaded it directly from the site?

It's not in the market. Okay, fine. So I came here to download it and it says, "download failed. this content is not supported on this phone". I have the unknown sources box checked, and it's still not working. I really want this app, it looks amazing! As usual, the iPhone has everything us android users want..

Hi Amber! We're working on a better fix to make sure you can access the app ASAP! Sorry the wait and the inconvenience!

If you're having a hard time downloading and/or installing the Android app, please follow these instructions. A more streamlined fix for downloading is on the way, but here's a work-around for those anxious to get your hands on the app!
---
1. If you've already attempted to download the SideReel Android app previously, please DELETE/uninstall it from your phone before attempting to re-download. The app will NOT download if the failed version is still on file on your phone! You can do this from the "manage applications" feature under Settings --> Applications --> Manage applications
2. In your device Settings, go to Applications and make sure the Unknown Sources box is checked! The SideReel Android app is NOT in the Market just yet, so you'll need to make sure your device is allowing non-market applications.
3. Go to http://www.sidereel.com/topic/android on your actual computer/laptop (NOT your phone's browser!) and download the .apk file onto your desktop.
4. Either: a) EMAIL yourself the newly-downloaded .apk file from your computer/laptop, then open the email from on your phone and download/install the file directly from your email. It should open and work!
-OR- b) Connect your device to your computer via USB and transfer the .apk file from your desktop to your device's SD card. You should then be able to open and install the file.
Let me know if this still doesn't work for you, and we appreciate your patience!-
I did the email the attachment to myself and received the following msg: " Parse Error. There is a problem parsing the package." I then tried the 2nd version. I didn't see an option for sd card so I put it in the main file and the download file. Couldn't find it on my phone. Even tried restarting phone. When do you expect it to be on the market? This seems to be too much trouble.
-
-
Hi Carrie,
If you successfully transfered it to your device, you should be able to find it by typing in 'sidereel' on your phone's search function.
If you still can't find it, try downloading it from email with a wireless connection - you may be receiving the parse error because of an incomplete download due to inadequate service/connection.
I agree that this is a lot of trouble and we apologize, but unfortunately its acceptance into the Market continues to be delayed, which is why we wanted to release in some form to those anxious to get it! -
-

UPDATE (10/18): A fix has been released so you should once again be able to download straight from the site onto your phone: http://www.sidereel.com/topic/android
First, make sure the checkbox is set to allow downloads from unknown sources in your Application settings!
Then open your phone's browser and go to http://www.sidereel.com/topic/android and download. Make sure you have an adequate internet connection so that the download completes properly!-
Hi! I have an HTC inspire and I checked the box for allowing all downloads and tried downloading it, but it said Starting download...
and never proceeded further
then I tried downloading it onto my (PC) computer and it said .apk wasn't supported on my computer etc etc.
I dont know what to do. This is really getting frustrating -
-
Hi neetu! If it seems to be taking an abnormally long time to download directly onto your phone, make sure you have an adequate internet connection! Wireless works best to ensure the download doesn't get interrupted halfway through.
If you're downloading onto a PC first and THEN transferring it, make sure you don't OPEN the file on your PC as it's not meant to function on your computer. Just download the .apk file and then transfer it directly to your phone to open it there. -

It is a little annoying to me that I have to re-sign into my account every time I launch the app. Other than that, though, it's great!

Android app is good, but the tracker needs sorting and filters, ie i dont want to see all my shows on the tracker only what are currently showing, and hidden when Im up to date. Also would be good to see the last aired ep on the show thumbnail. it would also be good, to filter future episodes from aired ones, some people might only want to know whats been shown, not whats coming. It can get confussing seeing future episodes on the track, also it means your never up to date when you actually are. Thanks
-
Thanks for your feedback! Since we just introduced the sorting feature to our main website, ideally we'd like this to come to the mobile version eventually!

I love the app but I don't like having to go through every episode of each season to mark the episodes I've watched. I'd like the ability to mark certain seasons as watched, much faster that way :)
Other than that awesome app! Thanks.-
Good call, Gerardo! Thanks for your feedback, and glad you're enjoying the app otherwise!

Can we watch shows on the droid? I installed the app and can open and view it but when trying to play an episode I see no "watch now" tab like I see on the demonstration page.
-
Hi Kristy, yes, but only from featured sources. The 'watch now' link will only appear if there are featured links available for the specific episode you're browsing.

Sorry to dredge this back up, but I was wondering if there was still a link available to download the .apk file directly. I would really love to have the app on my Kindle Fire, but unfortunately the app is not on the Amazon App Store. :(
-
Hi Tabitha! Here's the direct download link - let me know if you're still having trouble! http://sidereel-editorial.s3.amazonaw...
-
-
Sorry for the late reply, but that's perfect! Any chance it'll be on the Amazon App Store eventually?
